Google Business Profile Optimization for Pest Control (Full Checklist)

By Firnvane

A Google Business Profile is roughly half of what decides map-pack rank for a pest control business, and it is the one piece of local SEO you can fully control without touching your website. Most pest control profiles are set up once at launch and never revisited. A properly maintained one has the basics exact, every service listed individually, real photos, a steady flow of recent reviews with replies, and an active posting history.

The short version: use your real business name with no added keywords, pick the most precise primary category, list every service separately, keep your name, address, and phone identical everywhere, add real photos, and reply to every review. Treat it as a live listing, not a one-time form.

Get the basics exactly right

  • Business name should be your real, legal or operating name, exactly as it appears on your signage and paperwork. Adding extra keywords to the name field is against platform policy and risks suspension rather than helping you rank.

  • Primary category should match your main service precisely, not a broad catch-all. A termite-focused company should not sit under a generic category that undersells what it specialises in.

  • Secondary categories should cover every genuine additional service, wildlife removal, rodent control, tree services, so each has a chance to surface for its own searches.

  • Address or service area must be accurate and honestly configured. A service-area business with no public storefront should be set up as one, not forced into a storefront listing it does not have.

Services and descriptions

List every specific service you offer individually rather than one vague line. "Termite inspection," "wildlife exclusion," "rodent control," and "attic remediation" as separate entries each give Google, and a searcher, a precise match to find. The business description should be written specifically for what you actually do and where, not filled with generic industry language that could describe any competitor.

Photos

Real photos of your trucks, your team, and completed work outperform stock imagery, both for trust and because profiles with genuine, regularly updated photos tend to see more engagement. A profile that looks actively maintained reads as a more credible business to both searchers and the ranking system.

Reviews

A steady stream of recent reviews outperforms a large but stale total. Ask for a review at the natural end of a job, respond to every review, positive and negative, and never buy or incentivise reviews in a way that violates platform policy, since a suspended profile ranks nowhere at all. Getting that steady flow without nagging is its own topic, covered in how to get more pest control reviews.

Posts and questions

The Updates feature lets you post seasonal reminders, service notes, or offers directly to the profile, and an active posting history is another sign of a maintained, real business. Seeding the Questions and Answers section with the genuine questions customers ask, and answering them yourself, also gives searchers a direct answer before they even reach your site.

Consistency across the web

Your name, address, and phone number should match exactly on your website, your profile, and every directory or listing they appear on. Inconsistent details make it harder for Google, and for AI answer engines, to confirm you are one business and cite you with confidence. Keeping the profile and the site aligned is part of the local and AI search work Firnvane does.

Maintenance checklist

  • Name, address, and phone are identical on the site, the profile, and every directory.

  • Primary category is the most precise fit; secondary categories cover every real service.

  • Every service is listed as its own entry with a specific description.

  • New real photos are added on a regular schedule.

  • Every review gets a reply within a few days.

  • An Update is posted at least monthly.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for profile changes to affect rank?

Some changes, like categories and services, can shift visibility within a few weeks. Review volume and photo activity work more gradually, over months of consistent maintenance.

Should I hide my address if I work out of my home?

Yes. Set the profile up as a service-area business and specify the areas you cover. The address stays private and you still show for searches within your service area.

Can I have more than one profile for different services?

Only if they are genuinely separate businesses with distinct names, locations, and phone numbers. Duplicate profiles for the same business get merged or suspended.

Do Google Posts actually help ranking?

The direct ranking effect is small, but an active posting history contributes to the profile looking maintained and real, which does matter, and posts can win clicks from people already viewing the listing.
